Meet Dr. Antonio DiMarco
Dr. Antonino DiMarco is a diplomate of the ABIM. He has been practicing Internal Medicine and Clinical Cardiology in Rome, NY since 1978.
Born and raised in Italy, he attended the Medical School at Bologna University, where in July 1967 he obtained a medical degree Magna Cum Laude at the age of 24.
That same year Dr DiMarco became research fellow in Immunology, and in 1968 he was appointed to the faculty of the Bologna University Medical School as assistant professor of Experimental Pathology. He was to continue in this position till 1975.
His work consisted mainly of basic research in the emerging field of cellular immunology, while his duties included also teaching to medical students. During is last year of tenure, Dr. DiMarco continued his research as visiting fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute in NYC. Some of Dr DiMarco’s research findings were judged original contributions to the field, and were published in prestigious peer review Journals.
Today, two quests of this area of research —induction of selective immunologic tolerance, and improvement of immunologic defenses against cancer, are among the most pressing and central in medicine.
