Antonio T. DiMarco, M.D.

Meet Dr. Antonio DiMarco

Dr. Antonino DiMarco is a diplomate of the ABIM. He has been practicing Internal Medicine and Clinical Cardiology in Rome, NY since 1978.

Born and raised in Italy, he attended the Medical School at Bologna University, where in July 1967 he obtained a medical degree Magna Cum Laude at the age of 24.

That same year Dr DiMarco became research fellow in Immunology, and in 1968 he was appointed to the faculty of the Bologna University Medical School as assistant professor of Experimental Pathology. He was to continue in this position till 1975.

His work consisted mainly of basic research in the emerging field of cellular immunology, while his duties included also teaching to medical students. During is last year of tenure, Dr. DiMarco continued his research as visiting fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute in NYC. Some of Dr DiMarco’s research findings were judged original contributions to the field, and were published in prestigious peer review Journals.

Today, two quests of this area of research —induction of selective immunologic tolerance, and improvement of immunologic defenses against cancer, are among the most pressing and central in medicine.

In 1975, Dr DiMarco, declined a NATO Fellowship awarded to him for research on Tumor Immunology, to enter a three years post-graduate program in Internal Medicine at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. He graduated in 1978, and has been in private practice, in Rome, NY, since then.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE

During his residency, and then years of practice, Dr DiMarco has sought every opportunity to furthering his knowledge and competence in Cardio-Vascular Medicine. He has attended numerous courses at some among the most prestigious Institutions in the Nation, and he has obtained special certifications of competence in Cardiac Pacing, in Echocardiography, and in Critical Care (since he choose not to apply for a cardiovascular fellowship program, Dr DiMarco is ineligible for cardiovascular Board Certification).

Several diagnostic and therapeutic advances in cardiology have been introduced to our Central New York community by Dr DiMarco: among the most important, the 2-D Echocardiography in 1979, and the intravenous thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction, in 1982.

As a result of his studies and accomplishments over the years, Dr. DiMarco has gained the recognition of his peers as a non-invasive Cardiologist, and has obtained the priviledges and status of cardiovascular consultant.

Dr. DiMarco still enjoys studying and practicing in broad areas of Internal Medicine. However the patients he can help more are those with complex cardiovascular conditions, and those with coexisting and complicating diseases, to whom he can provide comprehensive, in dept assessment and the most advanced medical care.
